My background prior to owning a Master License with Stratus Building Solutions was in the oil and gas sector, specifically as a QA/QC inspector. During my final years in that industry, my wife Sarah and I decided to start a small private commercial cleaning company. We wanted something we could do together — a business not dependent on the volatility of the oil and gas sector. Sarah, who was a stay-at-home mom and homeschooling our children at the time, was eager to build something meaningful for our family. It was actually one of my mentors who encouraged me to start a commercial cleaning company, and from there, our journey began.

What was the deciding factor in choosing Stratus over other opportunities?

When we discovered Stratus, it was brand new to Canada — ground floor, in my mind, which felt like the perfect opportunity to get involved early. The cost to buy in was within reach, and the potential return made it a sound business decision. The idea of helping bring the brand to a new market while growing our own business was exciting and aligned perfectly with our goals.

What’s a standout success or milestone you’ve achieved since becoming an owner?

In our very first year, we were honored to win #1 in Franchise Sales and Top Start-Up Master. That recognition meant a lot because we started by wearing every hat and running every department ourselves. Today, we have an amazing team that handles most of the day-to-day operations, allowing us to focus on growth, leadership, and supporting our franchisees.

How has Stratus shaped your professional growth or personal outlook?

Stratus has shown us what’s possible when two people commit to hard work and perseverance. It’s proven that with consistency and faith, opportunities will always present themselves. Personally, this journey has deepened our faith in Christ, who we depend on daily for leadership, strength, courage, and wisdom — in both good times and challenging ones. Through Him, we’ve found balance, purpose, and fulfillment in building something together as a family.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned on this journey that you wish you knew earlier?

That we would’ve started this journey sooner. The earlier you begin, the sooner you can experience the freedom, fulfillment, and growth that come from owning a business like this.

In your opinion, what makes Stratus different from other franchise systems?

Stratus offers a relatively low startup cost combined with incredible networking and support from other Master Franchise owners and the corporate office. There’s a real sense of community and family here. The fulfillment that comes from helping others achieve their dreams of business ownership makes this system truly special — it’s success with purpose.

We look for individuals who have a willingness to learn, a desire to grow, and a genuine commitment to providing exceptional service for their customers. Those qualities build strong relationships and lasting success.

Who or what has been the biggest source of inspiration in your business journey?

Our biggest source of inspiration is Jesus Christ, who has led us to this incredible opportunity and continues to bless our work, our family, and our purpose. He’s guided every step of this journey. Second to that, we inspire each other — pushing one another to stay dedicated, work hard, and lead by example. Seeing our franchise owners achieve success and showing our children what commitment looks like keeps us motivated every single day.
