Spotlight on a Franchisee

I had a long run in the corporate world specializing in sales and sales management. When I saw that coming to an end, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and purchased a home inspection master franchise. It was more of a start-up concept at the time, but we built it into the largest inspection company in Canada. I met Stratus at a franchise show in Ottawa, and once I saw the business model, I was immediately intrigued. I’m very glad I made the choice to join the Stratus team.

What was the deciding factor in choosing Stratus over other opportunities?

There were two main factors that stood out to me with the Stratus opportunity.

  1. Market capacity. Every business needs cleaning — I won’t live long enough to saturate the market.
  2. Building an asset. The Stratus system allows both unit and master franchisees to not only build a strong income but also create a valuable asset that will serve them well in retirement.

What’s a standout success or milestone you’ve achieved since becoming an owner?

I’m proud to be part of one of the fastest-growing regions in one of the fastest-growing franchise brands in North America. The momentum we’ve built speaks volumes about the opportunity and the dedication of our team.

How has Stratus shaped your professional growth or personal outlook?

The Stratus support system is second to none. My weakest skill set was always finances, but the Stratus support team helped me dig deeper into my numbers and learn how to maximize profitability while still treating my employees and franchisees exceptionally well. That balance of business and people-first leadership has reshaped how I approach growth.

What’s one lesson you’ve learned on this journey that you wish you knew earlier?

Recurring revenue is king! Once you experience the stability and predictability of this model, you’ll never want to go back to chasing one-time sales again.

In your opinion, what makes Stratus different from other franchise systems?

The system works — and it’s in its prime. The growth across the network tells the story. As a new Master or Unit Franchisee, you don’t have to reinvent the business; you just have to execute the plan. It works, and there’s tremendous satisfaction in being part of something that delivers results so consistently.

What qualities do you look for when bringing new franchisees into your team?

Communication skills and a drive to deliver quality work are key. Those two traits form the foundation of success. We can teach everything else — but passion, reliability, and professionalism must come from within.

Who or what has been the biggest source of inspiration in your business journey?

The success of our franchisees is what inspires me most. I love seeing new Canadians living the Canadian dream. Many of our team members came to this country seeking better opportunities, and through the Stratus system, we’ve watched them build meaningful, prosperous lives for their families. Seeing that transformation is what fuels me every day.

What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about becoming a Master Franchisee?

My only regret is that I didn’t start earlier in life. Don’t pass this one up — the opportunity is real, the support is strong, and the potential is enormous.
